Capacity Building Program on ‘Enhancing Classroom Communication: A Focus on Communicative English Skills’ for Second Semester B.Ed. Students

Introduction:
On 13th February 2024, Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College organized a capacity building program for second-semester B.Ed. students with the aim of enhancing their communication skills in English. The program was conducted as a pre-school internship activity under the banner of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Mr. Rajesh Mohan, a distinguished Psycho Linguistic Trainer, led the session from 10:00 AM till 1:00 PM. The program was held in the Conference Hall of the college.

Objective:
The primary objective of the program was to equip B.Ed. students with effective communication skills in English, recognizing the significance of such skills in the teaching profession, particularly in pre-school education settings.

Program Details:
The session was titled “Enhancing Classroom Communication: A Focus on Communicative English Skills.” Dr. Naseerali M.K., the Principal of the college, inaugurated the program and introduced Mr. Rajesh Mohan as the resource person. Dr. Naseerali emphasized the importance of effective communication skills for future educators, highlighting the opportunities available for teachers who possess both subject mastery and excellent communication abilities.

Session Highlights:
Mr. Rajesh Mohan commenced the session by providing students with fundamental knowledge, skills, and practical strategies to enhance their English communication abilities. Through interactive activities and engaging discussions, he demonstrated easy and effective methods for practicing English speaking. The session focused on practical techniques that can be incorporated into daily routines to improve communication skills gradually.

Student Engagement:
Students actively participated in the session, showing enthusiasm for learning and implementing the techniques presented by the resource person. The interactive nature of the session facilitated a conducive learning environment, allowing students to overcome inhibitions and enhance their confidence in communicating in English.

Conclusion:
The capacity building program organized by Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College, under the auspices of the IQAC, proved to be a valuable initiative in enhancing the communication skills of second-semester B.Ed. students. The guidance provided by Mr. Rajesh Mohan equipped students with practical tools to improve their English communication abilities, thereby preparing them for the challenges of the teaching profession. Such initiatives underscore the college’s commitment to holistic education and the continuous development of its students.
