Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College organised a cleaning programme on 3rd October 2025 as part of the observance of Gandhi Jayanthi, which is celebrated on 2nd October every year to honour the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, particularly his emphasis on cleanliness and community service. The programme was jointly organised by the Nature Club and the College Union under the guidance of faculty members. The main objective of the initiative was to promote environmental awareness, cleanliness, and a sense of civic responsibility among teacher trainees.
The cleaning drive began in the morning with a brief gathering in the college courtyard, where the principal addressed the students, highlighting the importance of Gandhiji’s message on sanitation and the relevance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. Following this, students and teachers divided themselves into groups and started the cleaning activities inside the college campus and in the surrounding areas, extending from Villagemukku town to the college premises. Participants collected plastic waste, paper, and other debris from roadsides and public spaces, ensuring proper segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. The plastic waste was collected in large bags and later handed over to Haritha Karmasena for scientific disposal and recycling. All the students and staff members participated with great enthusiasm and a sense of unity, making the programme a grand success. The collective effort of the participants not only beautified the surroundings but also spread a strong message about the importance of cleanliness and environmental conservation to the local community. The event helped inculcate Gandhian values among students and reminded everyone that small acts of cleanliness can lead to a big change in society. Overall, the cleaning programme at Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College was a meaningful and inspiring initiative that combined education, service, and social responsibility in the true spirit of Gandhi Jayanthi.
