EVENT REPORT-KALAMALIKA ARTS FEST ’26

The Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College Students Union (2025-26) successfully conducted their annual arts festival, titled “Kalamalika” (കലാമാലിക), on the 22nd and 23rd of January 2026. The two-day event provided a vibrant platform for student teachers to showcase their artistic talents and creativity. In a special moment during the ceremony, it was acknowledged that the title of the arts fest, “Kalamalika,” was suggested by Hyfa, a first-year student. Immediately following the inaugural ceremony, a prize was awarded to Hyfa for her creative contribution in naming the event.

Inaugural Ceremony

The festivities commenced on January 22nd at 9:30 AM with a formal inauguration ceremony.The event began with a prayer by Ms. Megha Manoharan.Ms. Vismaya (Fine Arts Secretary) delivered the welcome address, inviting dignitaries and students to the festival. The function was presided over by the College Union Chairperson, Mrs. Raniyya U P.Dr. Ashraf T P addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of arts in education.The Arts Fest was officially inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Vinayakrishnan T P (Music Teacher, CHM HSS), who delivered the inaugural address. The gathering was felicitated by:Mr. Abdulla (Administrative Officer),Mrs. Vijisha C P (Assistant Professor in English) and Mr. Nafih A (UUC).The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Jasna (Joint Secretary).

Cultural Competitions

The “Kalamalika” Arts Festival was conducted in two distinct phases to ensure smooth organization and maximum participation.

  • Phase 1 (Off-Stage Items): Conducted during the first weeks of January 2026.
  • Phase 2 (On-Stage Items): Held on January 22nd and 23rd, 2026, at the college campus.

On-stage items

Following the inauguration, the stages came alive with various art forms. Over the course of two days, students participated enthusiastically in numerous off-stage and on-stage competitions, displaying high spirits and healthy competition.

Day 1: January 22, 2026

The first day of the festival focused on the inauguration and a mix of musical, theatrical, and visual performance arts.

  • Morning Session:
    • 09:30 AM: The event commenced with the Inauguration Ceremony.
    • 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM: The cultural competitions began with Mappilappattu (Group) and Mappilappattu (Individual), both scheduled simultaneously.
    • 12:30 PM – 01:00 PM: The morning session concluded with a Mime performance.
  • Afternoon Session:
    • 02:00 PM – 02:30 PM: The post-lunch session opened with the Fancy Dress competition.
    • 02:30 PM – 03:00 PM: This was followed by the Tableau presentation.
    • Conclusion: The day ended with Certificate Distribution.

Day 2: January 23, 2026

The second day featured a dense lineup of traditional dance and music forms, culminating in the closing ceremony.

  • Morning Session:
    • 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: The day began with the Group Song competition.
    • 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: This was followed by the traditional dance form Thiruvathira.
    • 11:00 – 11:45: The schedule listed Light Music for this time slot.
    • 11:45 – 12:15: Folk Song performances were conducted in this slot.
    • 12:15 PM – 01:00 PM: The morning cultural events concluded with Oppana.
  • Afternoon Session:
    • 02:00 PM – 02:15 PM: The session resumed with Semi Classical Dance.
    • 02:15 PM – 02:45 PM: The final cultural performance was the Group Dance.
  • Closing Ceremony:The festival concluded with the Valedictory Function and Prize Distribution to honor the winners.

Off-stage items

First weeks of January 2026 Various literary and creative competitions such as story writing (English,malayalm,) poem writing (English,malayalm), painting,cartoon,pencil drawing,collage,mehandi design,elocution (english,malayalam,hindi) ,vercification(eng,mal) and essay writing (eng, mal) were conducted prior to the main stage events. This early schedule allowed students to focus on individual creativity before the main festive days.

Valedictory Function & Prize Distribution The festival concluded on January 23rd with the Valedictory Function, celebrating the winners and the successful conduct of the event.Mr. Fasil C (General Secretary) welcomed the gathering to the closing ceremony. Mrs. Raniyya U P (Chairperson) presided over the function.Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various cultural competitions held during the fest.Dr. Ashraf T P delivered the valedictory message, commending the students for their active participation and the Union for their organization.The event officially came to a close with a vote of thanks by Ms. Vismaya (Fine Arts Secretary), who expressed gratitude to the management, staff, and students for making “Kalamalika ’26” a grand success
