REPORT ON THE WORKSHOP ON ‘DISCOURSE WRITING AND ASSESSMENT’
The English Department of Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College, in association with IQAC, organized a Workshop on ‘Discourse Writing and Assessment’ on 3rd February 2025 at 10 AM in the English Pedagogy Lab. The session was led by Vijisha C.P., Assistant Professor in English, and was attended by second-semester students.
The workshop focused on various discourse forms, including:
- Conversation
- Poem Writing
- Letter Writing
- Poster Making
- Profile Writing
- News Reporting
- Diary Entry, etc.
Vijisha C.P. explained the structure, purpose, and nuances of each discourse type, emphasizing their role in developing students’ writing and communication skills. The interactive session engaged students in practical exercises, allowing them to create different discourses based on given prompts.
A significant aspect of the workshop was the assessment component, where students evaluated their peers’ presentations using checklists and rubrics. These assessment tools helped in analyzing content quality, coherence, creativity, and adherence to discourse features. The hands-on experience enhanced students’ critical evaluation skills and provided valuable insights into effective writing strategies.
The workshop was highly beneficial, fostering creativity, analytical skills, and self-assessment practices among the students. The session concluded with a discussion on best practices for discourse writing and the importance of structured assessment in improving writing proficiency.
