The Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College witnessed a momentous occasion on the 21st of September 2023 as it inaugurated its much-anticipated Literary Club, ‘VAAKKU,’ in the distinguished presence of students, faculty members, and the Chief Guest, Mr. Ramesan Blathoor, a renowned writer, award-winning novelist, and esteemed school teacher. The event was a testament to the college’s commitment to fostering a rich literary and cultural environment on its campus.
Welcoming the Gathering: The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mr. Harikrishnan, a student of the B.Ed. batch 2023-24. His words set the tone for a day filled with intellectual discussions and creative exploration.
Unveiling of ‘VAAKKU’: The highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the unveiling of the Literary Club’s name, ‘VAAKKU,’ immediately following a prayer. The honor of revealing the name was bestowed upon the Chief Guest, Mr. Ramesan Blathoor, who gracefully performed the task.
Presidential Address: Dr. Naseerali M.K., the Principal of Kannur Salafi B.Ed. College, delivered the presidential address. In his inspiring speech, he underscored the shared objectives of establishing the Literary Club within the campus. Dr. Naseerali encouraged club members to organize innovative and creative programs under the banner of ‘VAAKKU.’ He eloquently elucidated how literature and the arts are intrinsic to human life, shaping perspectives and fostering cultural richness. Thought-Provoking Inaugural Speech: Mr. Ramesan Blathoor, in his thought-provoking inaugural speech, captivated the audience with his insights into literature, literary figures, and various art forms. While some points, including references to late legend Prof. Sukumar Azhikode, travelogue writer S.K. Pttakkat, AAN Frank’s Diaries, Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, and their significant works, had been touched upon by the Principal, Mr. Blathoor delved deeper into the diverse facets of literature. He critically evaluated characters from various books and highlighted Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s pivotal role in the social and educational reforms in the Malabar region of Kerala through his writings, even before government initiatives were initiated.
Felicitations: Mrs. Sudha M. and Drisya K.P. were felicitated during the event, acknowledging their contributions to the literary and cultural sphere.
Acknowledging a Creative Mind: Mrs. Ayfoona Abdul Razak, the student who proposed the title ‘VAAKKU’ for the Literary Club, was recognized and gifted by the Chief Guest for her creative suggestion.
Vote of Thanks: Mr. Viswanathan TV from the Malayalam Department extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who made the event a resounding success.
