On 25th October 2024, Kannur Salafi B.Ed College organized an educational field trip to Coorg, Karnataka, as part of the college’s experiential learning initiatives. The trip provided students with a firsthand experience of Coorg’s natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and rich heritage. Fifty-four students and two faculty members participated, ensuring a guided and immersive outing.
The Objective of the Trip was to explore cultural and natural sites in Coorg and enhance students’ understanding of local traditions and ecology and to promote team bonding and foster interpersonal skills outside the academic environment.
The group departed from Kannur Salafi B.Ed College early in the morning, traveling to various key sites in Coorg, including:
Golden Temple (Namdroling Monastery): This Tibetan Buddhist monastery, with its striking golden statues and vibrant artwork, gave students insight into Tibetan culture and Buddhism. The serene environment offered a peaceful start to the trip, with students appreciating the tranquil atmosphere and unique architecture.
Dubare Elephant Camp: At Dubare Elephant Camp, students enjoyed a close encounter with elephants, learning about the animals’ behavior, habitats, and care. They watched elephants being bathed and fed and learned about wildlife conservation efforts. This experience provided a memorable interaction with nature and an understanding of ethical wildlife tourism.
Nisargadhama: The students visited Nisargadhama, a beautiful river island known for its dense bamboo groves and picturesque surroundings. They explored the walking trails, wooden bridges, and viewing points, enhancing their appreciation for the area’s biodiversity and unique landscape.
Raja’s Seat: To conclude the day, the group visited Raja’s Seat, a scenic viewpoint known for its beautiful sunset views over the Coorg hills. Students enjoyed the panoramic vistas and reflected on the day’s experiences, making this stop a perfect ending to the itinerary.
Two faculty members accompanied the students throughout the trip, providing guidance, maintaining the schedule, and ensuring the safety and engagement of the group.
The field trip to Coorg was a resounding success, offering students a blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and hands-on learning. Each site contributed uniquely to the students’ experience, fostering both personal and educational growth. The college’s commitment to combining classroom learning with real-world exposure was evident, with the trip reinforcing a well-rounded approach to education.
