Faculty Development Programme on Learning Management System

Kannur Salafi B.Ed College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Learning Management Systems (LMS) on the 20th of May, 2024. The programme was designed to enhance the digital competencies of the faculty, focusing on the effective use of LMS platforms, particularly Moodle.

The primary objectives of the FDP were to:

  • Introduce faculty members to the concept and importance of Learning Management Systems in modern education.
  • Provide hands-on training on Moodle, an open-source LMS.
  • Equip educators with the skills necessary to create, manage, and deliver courses online.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching practices through digital tools.

Dr. K. S. Sajan, an esteemed Assistant Professor from NSS Training College, Ottapalam, was the resource person for the event. Dr. Sajan is renowned for his expertise in educational technology and his extensive experience with LMS platforms, particularly Moodle. Dr. Sajan commenced the session by explaining the fundamentals of Learning Management Systems. He highlighted their importance in providing a structured and efficient way to manage educational content, track student progress, and facilitate communication between teachers and students.

The participants were introduced to Moodle, a widely-used open-source LMS. Dr. Sajan demonstrated its key features, including course creation, assignment submission, grading, and feedback mechanisms. Faculty members were guided through the process of setting up their own Moodle accounts and creating a sample course. They learned to upload course materials, create quizzes, and set up discussion forums. The training empowered them to integrate digital tools into their teaching methodologies, thus enhancing the overall educational experience for their students.

Guided by the expertise of Mr. Shinu, a distinguished professional renowned for his mastery of life skills education and psychology, the programme delved into two pivotal areas of focus:Key Topics Explored:

  • Life Skills in Academic and Administrative Works: The session adeptly demonstrated the integration of life skills into the realm of academics and administrative tasks. Participants were exposed to insightful strategies that seamlessly incorporated life skills into daily responsibilities, amplifying productivity, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making proficiency.Psychological Aspects: Understanding the psychological underpinnings of personal and professional interactions was a central theme. Attendees explored techniques for stress management, the cultivation of effective teamwork, and the nurturing of emotional intelligence – all vital components for a harmonious and efficient work environment.
